NEW YORK — Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, it did.

On this night, given the recent injury news on multiple pitchers, this is the last thing the New York Mets needed.

Starting pitcher Marcus Stroman left Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves in the second inning because of left hip soreness.

He appeared to slip and tweak his hip while delivering a 1-1 pitch to the Braves’ Austin Riley with no outs. He did a little bounce right after the pitch, almost as if he felt immediate pain or discomfort.

Stroman then walked off the mound and began pacing before manager Luis Rojas and athletic trainer Joe Golia left the dugout to check on the right-hander.

Stroman threw multiple warmup pitches. He grabbed at his hip after one and tried to stretch out something in his body after others. He looked uncomfortable.

After a few minutes, he exited the game.

The Mets learned Tuesday that starter Joey Lucchesi will need Tommy John surgery. Robert Gsellman, a long man out of the bullpen, tore his lat and won’t throw for six weeks.

Jacob deGrom has suffered multiple injuries this season and has been on the injured list. Taijuan Walker has also spent time on the injured list.

After throwing a scoreless inning on Tuesday, Stroman has a 2.32 ERA.
