New ‘Barbie’ teaser trailer spoofs ‘2001: A Space Odyssey,’ features a dancing Simu Liu

A new teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action “Barbie” movie, which will feature stars such as Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu, premiered in select cinemas prior to screenings of “Avatar: The Way of Water.”
Before Warner Bros. shared the clip online on Friday, several IMAX moviegoers were reportedly the first in the world to see it.
The trailer, which satirizes the 1968 sci-fi film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” features a giant Barbie, played by Robbie, and children destroying their baby dolls. The end of the clip includes several colorful scenes – possibly musical numbers – and a shot of Barbie looking at her neighborhood from her Barbie Dreamhouse.

The plot of the upcoming film, directed by Greta Gerwig, is still tightly under wraps. However, it was revealed in May that “Barbie” will have three versions of Ken, with Simu Liu being one of them.
The Marvel actor, who has previously described the project as “wild” and “incredibly unique,” can be seen in the new teaser trailer dancing in front of a bright blue background while wearing a black T-shirt, black pants, black shoes and hot pink socks.
In addition to Robbie, Gosling and Liu, the live-action movie will also feature several other actors, including America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emma Mackey, Michael Cera, Rhea Perlman and Will Ferrell.
