Team USA played Germany on Friday in the 2023 FIBA World Cup semi-finals and lost 113-111.

For Team USA, Anthony Edwards had 23 points and eight rebounds while Mikal Bridges had 17 points and three assists. Jalen Brunson had 15 points and Austin Reaves had 21 points off the bench.

For Germany, Andreas Obst had 24 points and six assists while Franz Wagner had 22 points and five rebounds. Daniel Theis had 21 points and Dennis Schroder had 17 points.

In the first half, both teams did not give up an inch throughout the first 20 minutes of this contest. While both teams have been good defensive squads in this tournament, both teams had to try to win this game on the offensive end due to the talent on both sides.

In the second half, Germany started pulling away thanks to some timely shot-making and incredible defense in the third quarter. Things tightened up in the fourth quarter as Team USA started closing the deficit thanks to some clutch play from Anthony Edwards. In the end, it was one of those games where it was going to come down to one play and Germany made that play to hang on to their narrow lead.

Brooklyn Nets wings Bridges and Cam Johnson have played their parts for Team USA over the course of the World Cup. Bridges had himself another great day as he also had two rebounds and two blocks. Johnson did not play much in this one as head coach Steve Kerr chose to go with Reaves and Tyrese Haliburton for scoring off the bench.
