Nelson Piquet condemned for racially abusing Lewis Hamilton

Formula One, Mercedes, and the FIA have condemned the use of a racial slur to describe Lewis Hamilton by the three-times world champion Nelson Piquet.

A November interview with the Brazilian 69-year-old resurfaced where he used the slur “neguinho”, which translates from Portuguese as the N-word, while discussing the collision between Hamilton and his rival Max Verstappen during the first lap of the 2021 British Grand Prix’s first lap.

Piquet, the father of Max Verstappen’s girlfriend Kelly Piquet, was condemned but not directly referenced in a statement by Formula One after the comments came to light. “Discriminatory or racist language is unacceptable in any form and has no part in society.
