Neil Oliver: Sacred duty should be to our children not the Covid cult

It has been obvious for a while that life in the shadow of Earth’s youngest virus has taken on a religious note. The stale scent of obeisance, happily or sullenly offered, hangs in the air like incense smoke. Front and centre, with its cathedrals and parish churches, is the church of the NHS.

At least as important as the lives of the congregation, if not more so, the preservation of the institution itself was made paramount from the beginning. Never mind our souls: save our NHS. Flatten the curve. Stay away, unless it’s Covid.

At first the parish churches of the surgeries and the cathedrals of the hospitals kept us at arm’s length for fear of contamination. More recently that has evolved to the point
