Neighbors helping each other rebuild after the Peter Fire

Rebuild #Rebuild

ANDERSON, Calif.- The Peter Fire burned over 300 acres, destroying 16 structures and damaging another 8.

When the Peter Fire broke out, people living near the burn scar rushed to evacuate and hoped that their homes would be saved.

Jack Santos is one of the many people that live next to the burn scar on Third St.

He said he was terrified as he watched the fire move so quickly toward his home, but luckily firefighters were there to save it.

Santos says even during the chaos of evacuation, neighbors were checking in on each other and helping people get to safety.

“When it comes to wildfire out here, everyone comes together,” said Santos. “It’s a community, it’s a community thing. We’re all one big family and I think we all handled it pretty well, but our prayers and condolences go out to those families that did lose their homes.”

Santos says as people try to rebuild their lives from the ashes their community stands strong.

“I mean the only thing you can do is rebuild and move forward,” said Santos. “I mean, there really isn’t much else you can do.”

Crews will continue to work in the area over the next several days, mopping up hot spots, cutting down any burned trees, and removing debris so people living in the area can return to their normal lives.
