RACE. THAT WAS THE STORY OF THE KENTUCKY DERBY. MIDNIGHT BOURBON WAS BUMPED EARLY, LOST HIS FOOTING, ALMOST FELL AND STILL WOUND UP FINISHING SIX. THAT IS LARGELY WHY BETTORS HAVE MADE HIM THE FAVORITE TODAY DESPITE THE FACT THAT MEDINA SPIRIT LED WIRE-TO-WIRE IN THE DERBY. I HAD A CHANCE TO CATCH UP WITH RANDY MOSS EARLIER THIS WEEK TO TALK ABOUT THE MORNINGS OF A CLEAN BREAK FROM THE GATE IF YOU’RE GOING TO FIND YOUR WAY TO THE WINNER’S CIRCLE. RANDY: WHEN — WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE WAY THIS YEAR’S PREAKNESS SHAMES UP. I LOOK AT THE POST POSITIONS. YOU HAVE THE THREE DERBY HORSES ON THE INSIDE, THE NEW SHOOTERS ON THE OUTSIDE. ANY SIGNIFICANCE IN THAT TO YOU? RANDY: I THINK THE PRIMARY SIGNIFICANCE IN THIS RACE COMPARED TO THE KENTUCKY DERBY IS THAT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE POST POSITIONS, NECESSARILY. IT’S THAT THE RACE SHOULD BE RUN IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FAX THAN THE DERBY. MEDINA SPIRIT, ALTHOUGH HE DOESN’T HAVE TO HAVE THE EARLY LEAD, HAD THE ADVANTAGE EARLY OF HAVING TWO OTHER SPEED HORSES COLLIDE WITH EACH OTHER HAS THEY LEFT THE STARTING GATE.
