Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team on TNT Wednesday before Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks. Giddey, who played just 54 games, had a phenomenal rookie season when healthy as he averaged 12.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists.

Giddey missing one-third of the season was probably the biggest reason as to why he wasn’t named as a guard on the First Team. Let’s take a look at what NBA Twitter — even Giddey himself — had to say about Giddey making the second team despite winning Rookie of the Month in four of the five months during the regular season.

The only time Jalen Green was better than Josh Giddey this season was when Josh Giddey didn’t play.

Josh Giddey won Rookie of the Month over Jalen Green four times – every month Giddey played.

JGreen won Rookie of the Month once – the month Giddey missed.

Green is great and killed it down the stretch. Giddey missing time hurt his case.

But Giddey had a better rookie season. https://t.co/lv6rz2BaGC

Josh Giddey not making the All-Rookie first team is criminal.

Same with Herb Jones.

You don’t have to slander Jalen Green & bring him down while making a case for Josh Giddey & the all-rookie first team spot.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Giddey not being First Team All Rookie is like when Embiid didn’t win ROTY. Yeah they missed some games, but were clearly better than some counterparts.

Josh Giddey, who won Western Conference Rookie of the Month every month he was healthy, is left off the NBA All-Rookie first team. https://t.co/xftUBnRgb9

If Josh Giddey finishes the season he’s 1st team, if he also finishes the season they don’t get the 2nd pick.

I’m fine with this. https://t.co/QN6Bz6nsOY

Extra motivation for Giddey, love to see it.
