Despite a trying season, the Golden State Warriors reportedly aren’t looking to move Klay Thompson or Draymond Green ahead of the Feb. 8 NBA trade deadline.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst during an appearance on SportsCenter on Wednesday, the Warriors have “no interest” in trading two of the most influential players in franchise history.

However, Windhorst did note that the Warriors could look to move veteran point guard Chris Paul or forward Andrew Wiggins.

Golden State is just two years removed from winning its fourth championship in eight seasons, and one season removed from reaching the second round of the playoffs, but the Dubs are in real danger of missing the playoffs in 2023-24.

With a record of 20-24, the Warriors are 12th in the Western Conference, and they trail the 10th-place Utah Jazz by 1.5 games for the final spot in the postseason play-in tournament.

Golden State missed the playoffs in 2020 and 2021, but that was mostly due to key players missing time because of injury. If the Warriors miss the playoffs this season, injuries will not be the main culprit.

Superstar guard Stephen Curry has been his spectacular self, averaging 27.5 points, 5.0 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game, but he hasn’t gotten the kind of help he is accustomed to.

Thompson, who will turn 34 on Feb. 8, is second on the team in scoring with just 17.6 points per game, which represents his worst scoring output since his second NBA season in 2012-13.

The shooting efficiency simply hasn’t been there for Thompson this season, as he is shooting 42.1 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from beyond the arc, which are well below his career marks of 45.4 percent and 41.4 percent, respectively.

Green, 33, has never been much of a scorer, but he has always done the little things that contribute to winning basketball.

His averages of 9.3 points, 6.1 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.2 three-pointers made per game aren’t far off from his usual production, but availability has been an issue.

Green has been limited to 20 games this season, mostly due to the fact that he was suspended twice for flagrant fouls, including an indefinite suspension that ultimately cost him 16 contests.

While Green is signed through at least 2025-26 with a player option for 2026-27, Thompson can become a free agent at the end of the season.

It is difficult to envision Thompson donning another team’s uniform after likely carving out a Hall of Fame career for himself in Golden State with four championships, five All-Star nods and two All-NBA selections.

However, if the Warriors have no intention of re-signing Thompson, they would likely be able to get some value back for him in a trade, which would allow them to start building for the future.

The Warriors are a team built to win now, though, so it won’t be surprising if they keep their roster together and do everything they can to make a run at the playoffs.
