Al Horford is a 16-year NBA veteran.
He’s seen and been through a lot in the league. He’s been with four teams — Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia and Oklahoma City. He’s had both good seasons and bad. He’s played in 1,170 games during his career including regular and postseason action.
Yet for probably the first time, Horford brought something new to the proverbial NBA table when he suggested that he is an “elite shooter” following the Celtics’ Game 2 victory over the Sixers.

The comment was met with laughter by at least one reporter. Take a look.
Even so, Horford poured in 17 points on that Friday night and was 6 of 8 from the field including 5 of from downtown.
Unfortunately for “Big Al,” he laid a big egg in the next two crucial games for Boston.
In Games 4 and 5, Horford posted 10 points — combined. That includes a goose egg in the pivotal Game 5.
Since those comments, Horford has shot 3 of 16 from the field and 2 of 14 from beyond the arc. That included an 0 of 7 performance from deep in the Celtics’ 115-103 Game 5 loss to the 76ers.
And his 0 of 6 shooting from deep in the first half was a record-breaking performance in the Celtics’ long and storied history.
Horford’s clunkers certainly drew the attention of ruthless NBA fans on Twitter. The reaction, as expected, did not disappoint.
In basketball terms, Horford spent the last 96 minutes in this series chucking up bricks. With the Celtics facing a 3-2 series deficit as the action shifts back to Philadelphia, Boston fans will be left hoping that those bricks started laying a nice foundation for a hopeful comeback.
