A lot of characters made some terrible decisions, which lead to one catastrophe after another. Kishimoto wasn’t holding back when he wrote down the stories of the main characters. Here are the ten worst things that happened to the main characters in Naruto.

10 Team 10 Had To Watch Asuma Die

Hailed as a genius by the entire Hidden Leaf, Shikamaru is among the smartest characters in the series. Shikamaru was a part of the next generation of Ino-Shika-Cho and was placed in Asuma’s team.

Over time, Asuma and Shikamaru became very close friends. Unfortunately, Asuma met his end in Naruto Shippuden; he was killed by Hidan, a member of Akatsuki. When Shikamaru, Ino, and Choji arrived on the scene, they were devasted to see Asuma dying before their very own eyes. The death of their teacher left them in tatters.

9 Naruto Never Saw His Parents

Not many people have had a childhood worse than Naruto. When he just a newborn baby, Obito attacked the Hidden Leaf and used the Nine-Tails to cause a ruckus. Obito was easily dispatched by Minato, but the Nine-Tails’ rampage continued.

In order to stop the rampage of the Nine-Tails, Minato decided to use the Reaper Death Seal, but the tailed beast tried to attack the infant Naruto. Minato and Kushina jumped in front of the attack to stop, but they ended up being impaled by the claws of the Nine-Tails. This led to their deaths and made Naruto an orphan at birth.

8 Sasuke Had To Live With The Guilt Of Killing His Brother

Sasuke dedicated his life to ending Itachi’s life; it led to Sasuke developing an obsession for gaining more power. He finally got the opportunity to fight Itachi and settle things once and for all.

Itachi had no intention of killing Sasuke but considered the fight an opportunity to pass down his knowledge to his little brother. Obviously, Sasuke had no way of knowing this and he was quite pleased when Itachi died at the end of their fight. It was only after the fight that Obito revealed that Itachi was a victim of Hidden Leaf’s scheme. This left Sasuke guilt-ridden for a long time.

7 Kakashi Couldn’t Save Anyone Close To Him

Kakashi is the Sixth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf. He was the leader of Team 7 that consisted of Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. Kakashi has suffered all kinds of problems in his life. When he was still a kid, his father committed suicide.

He was a part of Team Minato along with Rin and Obito. During a mission, Kakashi had to watch a cave collapse on his best friend, Obito. Another time, while he was trying to save Rin from enemies, he used Lightning Cutter and Rin jumped in front of the attack. She died due to the attack. He couldn’t save Minato from being killed by the Nine-Tails. Also, Kakashi couldn’t stop Sasuke from leaving the village and joining Orochimaru.

6 Naruto’s Mentor Was Killed

During the Chunin Exams, Sasuke was being trained by Kakashi and it left Naruto without a proper teacher. Luckily for Naruto, Jiraiya was in the village at the time. After a lot of pestering from Naruto, Jiraiya gave in and took Naruto under his wing.

Jiraiya taught him chakra control, and how to use the Rasengan. Jiraiya also shared with Naruto about his dream of achieving peace. Naruto was happy after a very long time, but Kishimoto made sure that happiness wouldn’t last long. In Naruto Shippuden, Jiraiya was killed by Pain; thus leaving Naruto on his own once again.

5 Neji Was Victim of Hyuga’s Curse

Neji Hyuga was without a doubt the best talent from the Hyuga Clan. He had an innate talent for fighting and was considered by many to be the strongest member of Konoha 11. He had a lot of people praising him, but behind the scenes, Neji was in misery.

He was born in the Branch Family of the Hyuga Clan, which meant that he was branded with a curse mark. This curse mark was meant to protect the secrets of the Byakugan, however, it also enabled the members of the Main Family to discipline the Branch Family. For a long time, Neji believed that he had lost his freedom and was nothing but a caged bird.

4 Itachi Had To Kill His Entire Clan

Itachi Uchiha was a prodigy of the Uchiha Clan. He had caught everyone’s eyes when he was still a young kid. Itachi was kind and he preferred not to fight anyone. His life took a turn for the worst when Danzo ordered him to annihilate his entire clan.

Itachi was forced to kill everyone from his clan including his parents. After the incident, he left the village and was branded as a rogue ninja.

3 Naruto Was Ostracized By The Villagers

Naruto’s life has been filled with woes. After the death of his parents, Naruto was called a ‘monster’ by the villagers. Even though he was just a kid, the villagers treated him with disdain. They wouldn’t even allow their children to play with Naruto.

It’s funny to think that despite all the hardships that Naruto faced, he never tried to murder anyone. He remained loyal to the Leaf and even saved the village from extermination.

2 Sasuke Was Tortured By His Brother

Sasuke’s childhood was very traumatic. From a young age, Sasuke had adored his older brother, Itachi, and wanted to be like him. He couldn’t have envisioned that his brother would one day cause him unparalleled grief and agony.

During the Uchiha Clan massacre, when Sasuke returned to his house, he was shocked to find both his parents lying dead. Sasuke was overjoyed to see Itachi still alive, but he wasn’t ready for what came next. Itachi used his Tsukuyomi, one of the strongest genjutsu, on Sasuke, which showed Itachi murdering their parents again and again. The genjutsu scarred Sasuke completely and haunted him for life.

1 Gaara’s Father Tried To Kill Him

Gaara is the current Kazekage of the Hidden Sand, but things weren’t always like this. As a kid, Gaara was considered merely a weapon of destruction. Everyone in the feared him, and wanted him dead including his own father.

Gaara’s father made several attempts on the life of his son. This traumatized Gaara and turned him into a wary individual who never trusted anyone ever again for a long time.
