Former Cabinet minister accused Liz Truss of trashing Boris Johnson’s legacy today and told her to call an election to give her a legitimate mandate.
In the latest round of Tory infighting the ultra Boris Johnson loyalist accused the new Prime Minister of scrapping key elements of his time in power, including the licence fee review and selling off Channel 4.
It came after Ms Dorries, who backed Ms Truss to be Tory leader in place of Mr Johnson, yesterday criticised her for throwing Kwasi Kwarteng ‘under the bus’ over his Budget.
Ms Dorries, who is tipped for a peerage in Mr Johnson’s resignation honours, tweeted this morning that there was ‘widespread dismay at the fact that three years of work has effectively been put on hold’.
‘No one asked for this. C4 (Channel 4) sale, online safety, BBC licence fee review, all signed off by Cabinet all ready to go, all stopped,’ she tweeted.
‘If Liz wants a whole new mandate, she must take to the country.’

Business Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg disagreed. He told a Telegraph event at the Conservative conference that they used to get on ‘like a house on fire’ around the Cabinet table and agreed on ‘almost everything’.
But he added: ‘I don’t think there’s going to be an immediate election and I don’t think there’s a requirement for one.’
Yesterday Ms Dorries, who is also an author, ripped into Ms Truss after she said Kwasi Kwarteng was behind the decision to scrap the 45p tax rate for top earners.
The announcement in the mini-Budget just over a week ago – to be funded by massive increases in public borrowing – was reversed by the Chancellor this morning after massive criticism and market panic.
But in a pre-Conservative Party Conference interview on Sunday, Ms Truss said the decision to remove the tax band was taken by Mr Kwarteng alone, without consulting the Cabinet.
In response, Ms Dorries, who backed Ms Truss in the Tory leadership race before quitting as culture secretary, tweeted: ‘One of Boris Johnson’s faults was that he could sometimes be too loyal and he got that.
‘However, there is a balance and throwing your Chancellor under a bus on the first day of conference really isn’t it. (Fingers crossed) things improve and settle down from now.’
