Musah discusses start to life at Milan, working with Pioli and favoured role | OneFootball

Milan #Milan

Yunus Musah has answered a number of questions about his career to this point and life away from football in an interview with DAZN.

Musah is one of the new signings who has been most surprising at the start of the season with Milan. After Luka Romero, the midfielder was the second youngest signing of the summer mercato but he is proving that age is just a number.

Having arrived from Valencia as somewhat of an unknown quantity, the 20-year-old has already found a lot of playing time, also thanks to a hectic schedule plus the injuries sustained by Rade Krunic first and then Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Pioli is using Musah as a real wildcard, having already deployed him as a mezzala, a regista in front of the defence and even as a wing-back on the right.

Musah spoke in the ‘1 on 1’ segment on DAZN about all things on and off the field, with his comments relayed by Radio Rossonera.

What is San Siro like? “It was wonderful to make my debut at San Siro. I had never been there, I was impressed by the Curva, they sing for the whole match. Sometimes you can’t even hear the referee’s whistle, it’s so loud.”

What was the derby like? “After a defeat like this you cry or react. We reacted and demonstrated it on the field. We want to continue like this. After the match we were all angry, we never want to lose like that. It was a hard blow but we used it as motivation.”

Could you be like Kessie for Milan? “I watched him play, he helped the team get the ball up front. It was fundamental. What he did at Milan is an example for me and I want to do more.”

Is the Scudetto a target? “Winning the Scudetto is the goal, it would be wonderful.”

What has it been like working with Pioli? “He helped me understand the system and how to be a mezzala. Every day he helps me with other details, at every training session he talks to me and therefore will help me improve.”

How is the mood heading into the Juventus game? “All matches are difficult, but especially against teams with these players, they are always matches in which everyone expects a lot. It will be nice to challenge McKennie and Weah and beat them.”

What is it like playing with Pulisic? “Nice to have him here, we’ve known each other for a long time. He is doing very well. There were times when we thought it would be nice to play together. When he signed he wrote to me and in the end he was happy.”

What was LaLiga like? “I played a lot there, I’m young but I gained a lot of experience and this helped me for Milan. We had difficult moments when we had the fans against us. This helps me manage the pressure.”

And working with Gattuso? “I think he changed his phone number, I haven’t spoken to him [since he went to Marseille].”

Mezzala, regista or out wide? “I like being a mezzala more, I have more fun there.”

Strongest midfielder in the world? “Rodri.”

What songs get you pumped up? “House music, the DJ is Theo.”

Most beautiful stadium? “San Siro.”

Which player gave you most trouble? “Kroos.”

Who would you like to challenge? “Pogba.”

If you hadn’t been a footballer what would you have done? “I didn’t have a plan B.”
