The Supreme Court said in a statement that Ginsburg died “surrounded by her family at her home in Washington, D.C., due to complications of metastatic pancreas cancer.”

The news sent shockwaves through the nation and Washington, D.C. as people mourned the iconic liberal Supreme Court Justice, who for decades championed women’s rights.

The vacant seat also raises questions heading into the 2020 presidential election, as Trump could make a last-minute nomination to fill the spot.
