Monday’s high school roundup: Thornton coach earns 100th career victory

SACO — Eric Marston, coach of the Thornton Academy girls’ basketball team, posted his 100th career victory as the Golden Trojans beat Windham 52-36 on Monday at Linnell Gymnasium.
He is the winningest coach in the history of the girls’ basketball program at Thornton, which fielded its first interscholastic team in the sport in 1902-1903.
Thornton Academy’s victory over Biddeford on Friday night propelled Marston into the all-time lead, surpassing Phil Curtis who has 98 wins while coaching Thornton Academy from 1972-1981.
Jessica Dow scored a game-high 16 points for the Trojans on Monday night, while Addisen Sulikowski added 13 points and Katherine Leblanc 10.
Carly Morey scored 11 points for Windham and Sarah Talon added 10 points.
YARMOUTH 49, BRUNSWICK 34: Ava Feely scored 14 points and Calin McGonagale added 12 to lead the Clippers (3-0) past the Dragons (2-1) in Yarmouth.
Margaret McNeil hit two 3-pointers and finished with eight points for Yarmouth.
Morgan Foster scored 11 points for Brunswick and Lauren Brewer had six.
POLAND 40, SACOPEE VALLEY 30: Emma Williams paced a balanced attack with nine points as the Knights (1-2) earned their first win of the season by beating the Hawks (0-2) in Hiram
Emma Bunyea added eight and Atlantis Martin six for Poland.
Jalyn Stacey scored 10 points for Sacopee Valley. Brooke Landry added seven.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 53, TRAIP ACADEMY 38: Elise MacNair had 24 points and seven rebounds as the Seagulls (2-0) defeated the Rangers (1-1) in Kittery.
Shani Plante chipped in 20 points and six assists for Old Orchard Beach.
Addy Hale was Traip’s leading scorer with 12 points.
MEDOMAK VALLEY 42, BOOTHBAY 33: Glory Blethen scored 20 points and surpassed 1,000 points for her career, but the Seahawks (2-5) fell to the Panthers in Boothbay Harbor.
Blethen passed the milestone with a 3-pointer in the third quarter. Jaelyn Crocker added 11 points for Boothbay.
Abby Lash had 17 points for Medomak Valley.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
BRUNSWICK 52, YARMOUTH 43: Sophomore Quinn McCaffrey connected on four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, Evan Kilfoil scored all 10 of his points in the second half and the Dragons beat the Clippers for their first win of the season.
Matt Waeldner paced a well-balanced attack for Yarmouth (2-1) with 11 points. Will Cox and Peter Psyhogeos added seven points each, while Cam Rollins and Sutter Augur both scored six.
GORHAM 62, SCARBOROUGH 53: Mason Laskey, Bode Meader and Garrett Smith each scored 12 points for the Rams (3-0), who had five players score in double figures in a win over the Red Storm (0-2) in Scarborough.
Ashton Leclerc added 11 points, including three 3-pointers, for Gorham, while Grant Nadeau had 10.
Rowan McDonald scored 16 points for Scarborough. Zander Haskell added 11.
POLAND 67, SACOPEE VALLEY 35: Isaiah Hill hit four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points as the Knights beat the Hawks in Poland.
Hayden Christner, Joseph Levesque and Evan Kelly each added eight points for Poland.
McGwire Sawyer’s 13 points led Sacopee Valley, while Carson Black added 12 points.
TRAIP ACADEMY 62, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 52: Treshaun Brown scored 19 points and Frankie Driscoll added 17 as the Rangers (1-1) beat the Seagulls (1-1) in Old Orchard Beach.
Ryan Crockett poured in 29 points for Old Orchard while Landen Johnson chipped in with eight.
GIRLS’ HOCKEY
SCARBOROUGH 7, PORTLAND/DEERING 0: Maya Sellinger scored three goals to power the Red Storm (2-0) past Portland/Deering (2-1) at William B. Troubh Ice Arena in Portland.
Kathleen Murphy, Amber Woods, Morgan Scoville and Lily Spooner each scored a goal a Scarborough while Calynn Gendreau had three assists and goalie Ariella Sweet made nine saves.
Portland/Deering goalie Anna Gannon made 38 saves.
CAPE ELIZABETH 3, CHEVERUS 2: Bella Schifano’s shorthanded goal in overtime lifted Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland (3-0) to a win over Cheverus/Old Orchard Beach (0-1) at William B. Troubh Ice Arena in Portland.
Goals by Nicolletta Coupe and Schifano staked Cape Elizabeth/Waynflete/South Portland to a 2-0 lead before Lucia Pompeo scored two third-period goals for Cheverus/Old Orchard Beach to tie the game and force overtime.
