Oakland Unified School District released a statement just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday, concerning contract negotiations with striking teachers.

“We are making good progress and will keep our families and community updated throughout the night.”

Officials said Saturday tentative agreements were reached on so-called common good issues including housing and transportation, historically black schools, school closures and state grants.

There are nine school days remaining in the year for 35,000 students. The teacher walkout passed its seventh day Friday. The Oakland Education Association represents about 3,000 teachers and other employees.

Teachers want pay increases and the district to address homelessness, environmental issues, and critical upgrades for school facilities.

A man was shot and wounded early Sunday morning in Oakland’s Fruitvale district.

Police said they were called just before 2 a.m. to the 1900 block of International Blvd.

Officers found the victim with a gunshot wound.

Paramedics treated the victim at the scene and transported them to the hospital, where they were in stable condition, police said Sunday evening.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim’s injuries may have been self-inflicted. They later determined they were shot by an unknown individual.

A woman who stopped to assist an accident victim early Sunday morning near Fremont was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Sunday morning.

The California Highway Patrol said around 2:40 a.m. a solo crash occurred on the northbound Interstate 880 off-ramp to Highway 262, which resulted in a Chevrolet being disabled, blocking the lanes of the off-ramp.

A Mitsubishi with a male driver and female passenger stopped and assisted the Chevrolet to the right shoulder of the off-ramp and parked behind it. The Mitsubishi’s passenger exited her vehicle to speak with the driver of the Chevrolet.

As she stood between the vehicles, a Ford F150 with a solo male driver, drifted onto the shoulder and crashed into the rear of the Mitsubishi, which caused it to strike and kill the victim.

The driver of the Ford fled the scene and is still being sought by police.

CHP officers arrested the driver of the Chevrolet for suspected DUI.

The California Highway Patrol said one of its helicopter units rescued a hiker Saturday night who fell from a rock cropping earlier that evening in San Jose’s Alum Rock Paerk, injuring himself.

CHP officials said the man fell around 6 p.m. and injured himself. Firefighters could hear him calling for help but couldn’t get to him, due to the terrain.

The CHP helicopter located the man and rescued him around 10:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said just before 5 p.m. Sunday the flood watch for the Merced River at Pohono Bridge in Yosemite Valley has been upgraded to a flood warning, thanks to the effect of the warm weather on this season’s massive snowpack.

The NWS said on Twitter the Merced River through Yosemite “will stair-step upward through the week as snow melts during this week’s heat wave.

Much of the valley from Highway 120 is closed, due to the likely flooding. Park officials say some areas may not reopen until June.

Park officials said Lower and North Pines campgrounds and the Housekeeping Camp will close beginning Monday.

Yosemite Valley, the Mariposa Grove, and Wawona will still be accessible from highways 140 and 41.

The National Weather Service forecast for Monday for the greater San Francisco Bay Area calls for mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 60s along the coast, 70s in parts of the East and North Bay, and reaching into the 80s in the South Bay Area.

Monday night calls for partly cloudy skies with lows in the 50s.
