Moment Rylan grills Rishi over lack of GP appointments in bizarre This Morning interview where PM scoffs pasta with Rochelle Humes after finishing 36 hour fast – and laughs off …

Rishi Sunak guzzled pasta and chicken on This Morning today as he batted away questions over the lack of GP appointments and when the election will come.

The PM made an at times surreal appearance on the ITV show as he discussed his habit of fasting for 36 hours at the beginning of the week.

Declaring that he had finished his routine this morning, Mr Sunak tucked in to a dish prepared in the cooking segment – and revealed he had snaffled two pastries earlier.

The premier laughed heartily as he was pressed by hosts Rylan Clark and Rochelle Humes on the timing for an election, repeating that it would most likely be in the second half of the year.

But he did credit the food with making him feel confident about winning, joking: ‘I’ve been fueled by the chicken from This Morning.’

The presenters also challenged Mr Sunak on the NHS, pointing out how difficult it is to get GP appointments. The PM dodged by arguing that the government was trying to improve technology in the health service.

Mr Sunak said ‘we don’t have a magic money tree’ when grilled over the Government’s failure so far to reach a pay deal with junior doctors.

He said ‘it is disappointing’ that junior doctors ‘said no’ to an offer of an ‘on average 10 per cent pay rise’.

‘We don’t have a magic money tree. And we have to be fair to everybody.

‘A million other NHS workers have all actually come to a reasonable agreement with the Government. Every other bit of the public sector has come to a reasonable agreement. I think what we’ve done is fair, it’s reasonable, it’s been endorsed by an independent body.’

He added: ‘I really hope that people will get around the table and come to a sensible (agreement).’

When it was put to him that resolving the pay dispute would boost his chances in the election, Mr Sunak said: ‘My job is to do what’s right in the country in the long term.’
