Recent MLB rumors suggest the Washington Nationals could trade Juan Soto. These five teams should be considered the favorites.

The headline of all MLB rumors in 2022 could be a potential trade involving Washington Nationals superstar right fielder Juan Soto. At just 23 years old, he is already one of the most well-known names in the league, a perennial MVP candidate, and someone who may not last long in D.C.

According to the MLB rumors shared by ESPN’s Buster Olney, the team may be motivated to trade Soto this summer.

So, where could he end up? Assuming the Nationals don’t trade him within the division, we can eliminate their rivals in the National League East although the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets would be a fit otherwise. There are still plenty of other teams that could go for broke and may a blockbuster for Soto.

The St. Louis Cardinals should stay in contention for a playoff spot all season long. This puts them in position to make a big trade deadline maneuver to land a star like Soto.

The team’s primary right fielder this season, Dylan Carlson, has not played particularly well. A season after finishing third in the Rookie of the Year vote, his numbers have declined drastically.

Will St. Louis give up on him already? They might want to if it means swapping him in a package for a far more proven player such as Soto.

Carlson is the exact kind of player the Nationals should want to land in any sort of Soto trade. He has some good power potential and would mix in nicely into their rebuilding outfield.

Of course, it will take far more to land Soto. The Cardinals should be looking at a big bat to add to their lineup. However, their preference could be to target a shortstop instead as that has become a big hole in the lineup.
