Minnesota reports 8,703 new COVID cases Saturday — another record

Minnesota COVID-19 cases continue to rise, breaking another record Saturday with 8,703 new cases and bringing the new tally to 216,028.

An additional 35 deaths were reported by the Minnesota Department of Health. In total, 2,874 Minnesotans have died from coronavirus since March.

Saturday’s reported deaths consisted of nine individuals in their 90s, 16 in their 80s, seven in their 70s, one in his or her 60s and two in their 50s.

Of the 19 counties affected, 11 reported one death. Ramsey and Washington reported five each; Hennepin had four, and Rice, Stearns, Aitkin, Mille Lacs and Blue Earth each had two.

Twenty-seven of those who died were living in long-term care or assisted-living facilities. Of the cumulative deaths in Minnesota, 69 percent have been in long-term care facilities.

Overall, there have been 3,356,392 tests administered in the state.

At least 77 percent of those who have tested positive for COVID-19 are no longer in isolation. This number does not include deaths.
