Mild Drama as PDP NWC Kicks Out Wike’s Lawyer in Cases Against APC, Others in Rivers

There was a fresh drama in the Port Harcourt Division of Court of Appeal on Monday, January 30th, 2023.
This is as the National Working Committee, (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) applied to take over the cases filed against opposition parties by the Rivers chapter of the party, PM News reported.

In a letter read out in court, PDP NWC asked Emmanuel Ukala, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) hired by the Rivers chapter of PDP to allow another lawyer it hired identified as Johnson Usman to take over the appeal it filed against verdicts of the lower court in its suits against the Accord and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Similarly, the PDP NWC also asked Emmanuel Ukala, SAN, to hands off from further representation in an appeal against the All Progressives Congress, APC, and National Assembly Candidates by the Rivers chapter of the party.

Meanwhile, none of the counsels in court opposed the decision of PDP NWC.
Therefore, the three-man appeal panel led by Justice Joseph Ikyegh granted the request and adjourned until Friday, February 3rd, 2023 following a request by the new PDP counsel.

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, has promised to “inflict many scars” on Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other leaders of the opposition, on Tuesday, January 31.
Wike disclosed his intention at the State School Premises in Okehi 1, where the Rivers state PDP flag-off its campaign rally in Etche local government area on Monday, January 30.
The governor spoke on the background of the recent move of the PDP national directing its lawyers to withdraw from the case of the PDP in Rivers state against other political parties.
2023 elections: PDP G-5 governors politically irrelevant, says Nabena
Meanwhile, Yekini Nabena, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain has warned the party’s leaders having a chummy relationship with the G5 governors of the PDP to retrace their steps.
Nabena, a former deputy spokesman of the APC, said the aggrieved governors from the opposition party are inconsequential.
The Bayelsa-born APC chieftain stated unequivocally that the governors have no major influence on voters ahead of the elections.
