Moments before undoubtedly the biggest game of his glittering career, USA star Mike Trout still had an eye on the future.
The future Hall-of-Famer reiterated his desire to play for the Stars and Stripes in the 2026 World Baseball Classic in a pre-game interview with Fox Sports.
“I already told them I’m doing the next one,” Trout said. “I’m already in. If I’m DHing, playing left field, whatever they want, I’m in.”
Sitting at the lectern on the field with fellow big league dignitaries David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez, Trout seemed in good spirits. The 31-year old has enjoyed a sumptuous tournament so far, entering Tuesday’s championship with a .318 batting average, one home run and seven RBIs.

It’s an environment Trout and many of his USA teammates have thrived in. And the added pressure of trying to bring a trophy back to their home country has made a big impact on Mark DeRosa’s squad, said Trout.
“How proud we are, wearing that [USA] across our chest,” Trout said. “Just coming out here, … hearing the USA chants. It’s special.”
The impact has been clear to see. Not only have the Americans performed well on the diamond. But off of it, they’ve built quite the chemistry, best encapsulated by their salute celebration — which pays homage to the U.S. military.
The Millville Meteor is desperate to hoist that sterling silver trophy. But rest assured, no matter what happens on Tuesday, expect to see Trout don that deep blue American kit once more.
