Shares in the tech colossus closed around 2% higher Monday after it hired the artificial-intelligence expert. Altman was booted late Friday from his previous outfit, OpenAI, which had significant backing from Microsoft.
Microsoft (MSFT) now has a market value of more than $2.8 trillion, meaning the post-Altman move represents an additional $56 billion in value. Microsoft shares closed at a record high.
