Michigan State LB Aaron Brule returning for 2023 season

Aaron Brule’s time at Michigan State isn’t finished.
The fifth-year senior linebacker will return for the 2023 season, he announced via Twitter on Tuesday. He has one season of eligibility left because of the extra year the NCAA granted athletes in 2020 due to COVID-19.
“I look forward to preparing for war and winning a championship for this program with the guys in this locker room,” Brule wrote in part of a statement. “I am willing to do whatever it takes. God will handle the rest.”
Brule, a New Orleans native, spent four seasons at Mississippi State before arriving at Michigan State this year as a graduate transfer. He appeared in all 12 games this season with two starts and had 30 tackles, including 6.5 for a loss, four sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass break-up. Brule had 18 tackles, including 4.5 for a loss, and three sacks over the final four games combined as the Spartans finished 5-7.
Brule is the second Michigan State linebacker to announce he’s returning to use his final season of eligibility, following starter Jacoby Windmon, who made the decision public on Saturday. Starting linebacker Cal Haladay and backup Ma’a Gaoteote are both slated to return next season. Junior Darius Snow moved from defensive back to linebacker this year and started the opener before suffering a season-ending injury.
Coach Mel Tucker last week said he expects left guard J.D. Duplain, center Nick Samac and defensive end Khris Bogle to all return for the 2023 season. There are other Spartans with eligibility left who have not announced if they will be back, including running back Elijah Collins, receiver Tre Mosley and defensive end Brandon Wright.
Among the Michigan State players with remaining eligibility, receiver Jayden Reed, running back Jarek Broussard, defensive tackle Jacob Slade and linebacker Ben VanSumeren all declared for the NFL draft.
