Netflix revealed that Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and the rest of the original cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World will return to voice their respective characters.

The streamer is producing an anime series adaptation that will delve deeper into the popular graphic novel series that inspired the 2010 film.

Netflix confirmed the casting in a post that was shared on Netflix’s official Twitter account on Thursday.

The movie, which was also adapted into a video game, was based on the wildly popular Bryan Lee O’Malley-created graphic novel series.

The first volume in the franchise, entitled Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life, was published in 2004.

The franchise centers on the eponymous character as he pursues a relationship with mercurial delivery woman Ramona Flowers and attempts to defeat her seven evil exes.

Five sequels followed the original title, with the final installment being published in 2010.

The graphic novel series was met with widespread critical acclaim during its six-year run, with many reviewers praising its fusion of American and Japanese creative influences.

Edgar Wright went on to adapt the series into Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which starred Michael Cera as the title character.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead costarred as the figure’s love interest while Kieran Culkin played his humorously acerbic roommate Wallace Wells and Ellen Wong portrayed his casual girlfriend Knives Chau.

Jason Schwartzman played the series’ overarching villain, Gideon Graves, while Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Mae Whitman and Satya Bhaba played four of Flowers’ exes.

Alison Pill, Mark Webber and Johnny Simmons played the members of Pilgrim’s band, Sex Bob-Omb, and Brie Larson portrayed the character’s own ex-girlfriend, Envy Adams.

The movie, which also featured musical input from figures such as Beck and Nigel Godrich, was met with a positive critical reception upon its debut, with many reviewers praising the usage of comic book and video game tropes.

However, the feature failed to break even at the box office during its initial period of release.

A video game based on the graphic novel franchise was later released to much acclaim in 2010.

The Hollywood Reporter announced that an anime show based on the graphic novel series was in development last January.

At the time, it was revealed that O’Malley would be writing and executive producing the series alongside BenDavid Grabinski.

The graphic novel series’ creator recently sat down for an interview with Netflix’s TUDUM, where he expressed his excitement to be able to collaborate with the movie’s cast.

‘They’ve all gone on to do incredible things, but to me, they’re family,’ he said.

O’Malley added: ‘There — to this day — is still a group email with the entire cast on it, that’s been going since 2010. I was happy to be able to reach out to everyone with the news that we had finally come up with a way to continue the adventure.’

Wright also spoke to the media outlet and expressed that he had been interested in adapting the book into an anime series for an extended period of time.

‘I knew that a live action sequel was unlikely, but I would usually defer by suggesting that perhaps an anime adaptation was an interesting way to go. And then, lo and behold, one day Netflix got in touch to ask about this exact idea,’ he said.

O’Malley then spoke about the upcoming show would likely impress viewers with its scope.

He stated: ‘It’s hilarious. It’s emotional. It’s visually stunning. The action scenes will blow your mind. And there might be a few surprises along the way.’
