Michael Beale: Rabbi Matondo needs confidence but is in the right place at Rangers

Rangers manager Michael Beale said striker Rabbi Matondo was suffering a crisis of confidence after he missed a huge chance to score his first goal for the club in their narrow 1-0 win over Ross County in Dingwall. The 22-year-old Welsh international has slipped out of the starting team since arriving from Schalke for £2.5 million in the summer.

Matondo came on as a substitute and had a great opportunity when he raced through on Ross Laidlaw only for the goalkeeper to save with his legs. A second goal would have given Rangers a cushion but they were still comfortable in defending John Lundstram’s first-half goal for a 1-0 win.

Matondo’s missed opportunity soon led to stinging criticism on social media. “He’s a young boy,”
