Micah Hyde is latest Bills player connected to Packers-Aaron Rodgers saga

The curious way the Buffalo Bills are connected to the Aaron Rodgers-Green Bay Packers saga continues to grow.

First and after some speculation, Rodgers confirmed during his first press conference of training camp (after deciding to actually play for the Packers) that he was mad the team lost Jake Kumerow last offseason.

After the Packers cut him, he signed with the Bills and Rodgers didn’t like that.

But now we have Micah Hyde.

In addition to beating around the bush a bit in referring to Kumerow as the team’s “second-best wide receiver” during training camp, Rodgers mentioned Hyde by name. Rodgers was airing out a list of decisions he was also annoyed by.

Green Bay letting Hyde leave and sign with the Bills, like Kumerow did, was a part of the puzzle.

“I think it was a lot of things that transpired,” Rodgers began. “I wanted to help the organization maybe learn from some mistakes in the past, in my opinion, about the way some of the outgoing veteran were treated and just the fact that we didn’t retain of number of players that I feel like were core players to our foundation. High character guys like, I’m talking about Charles Woodson, Jordy Nelson, Julius Peppers, Clay Matthews, Randall Cobb, James Jones, John Kuhn, Brett Goode, TJ Lang, Bryan Bulaga, Casey Heyward, Micah Hyde. Guys who were expectational players for us, great locker room guys, many of whom weren’t offered a contract at all or were extremely low-balled or were maybe, in my opinion, not given the respect on the way out that guys of their status and stature and high character deserve.”

That’s right, among the laundry list of mistakes that Green Bay has made, in Rodgers’ opinion, letting Hyde walk and sign as a free agent in 2017 with the Bills is among them.

Eventually, Hyde heard about this.

On Thursday during his press conference from Day 2 of Bills training camp… Hyde said he had not seen what Rodgers said. Instead, Hyde said his phone was blowing up because people reached out to him to tell him about it.

Hyde, who was informed during the 2016 season that the Packers were not planning to work on an extension with him after the year, agreed with some of Rodgers’ thoughts as well.

“I remember after leaving that place, I remember him really reaching out to me and letting me know how frustrated he was. And I think that, his little presser yesterday, was well thought out… a conversation, that he had with the media,” Hyde said. “He was speaking a lot of facts.”

Hyde, a fifth-round pick of the Packers in 2013, signed in Buffalo after his rookie contract expired in Green Bay. The 30-year-old since went on to sign an extension with the Bills as well.
