The Mets signed the Japanese right-hander to a five year, $75 million deal this offseason. Senga spent the last 11 years in the Nippon Professional Baseball league and is a three time All-Star. He also won six Japan Series titles and is a two-time Mitsui Golden Glove Award Winner.

The Mets are dealing with a longer-term issue with another newly signed starter. Jose Quintana will undergo bone graft surgery, reports Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. In Quintana’s first start, he was pulled with two outs in the first inning after giving up five runs. Last week, he exited after one inning with what the Mets at the time called left side tightness. The 34-year-old veteran was added to the Mets rotation this offseason on a two-year, $26 million contract.
