With the All-Star festivities over it is time to turn the attention to the second half of the season and what the Mets can accomplish when it gets underway.
Jacob deGrom’s historic season will be one of the more exciting storylines in baseball to follow these final two and a half months of the season.
Pete Alonso took the crown during the Home Run Derby, but the Mets will need to see more of that power when the season starts up again against the Pirates.
Alonso is not the only Met who needs to step it up for the stretch run.
Despite being the team’s best offensive player by fWAR, SNY still gave Francisco Lindor a failing grade for the first half.
The Mets should get a boost after the break with the return of J.D. Davis who has been tearing it up with Syracuse.
The team will open the second half with Marcus Stroman on the mound, and while some things are still fluid with the rotation, Tylor Megill has earned the right to start every fifth day.
Carlos Carrasco’s return could be on the horizon since he will make a rehab start this week.
SNY was not included in the sale of the team to Steve Cohen, but the new owner is hoping to change that soon.
Around the National League East
Talking Chop tracked the Atlanta Braves draft picks with a very handy chart.
Should the Marlins trade Garrett Cooper?
Should the Phillies trade Zack Wheeler in return for payroll flexibility? (No this is not an article about the Mets in 2018).
The Nationals are below .500 and six games back of first place when the second half of the season begins. Can they make up ground or should they be sellers at the end of the month?
Around Major League Baseball
Trevor Bauer’s administrative leave has been extended another two weeks as both Major League Baseball and the Pasadena police investigate the sexual assault allegations made against him.
Giants executive Dick Tidrow passed away at the age of 74. Tidrow had a hand in drafting Tim Lincecum, Jonathan Sanchez, and Madison Bumgarner which helped propel them to become World Series champions.
With the 2021 MLB Draft in the books, when will we see these newest prospects in the big leagues?
After getting released by the White Sox, the Angels signed outfielder Adam Eaton.
Joey Gallo earned his All-Star appearance by revamping his swing that has lead to impressive results.

On Episode 93 of A Pod of Their Own, Pete Alonso’s big Derby win, the All-Star Game, and Trevor Bauer’s sexual assault allegations were all discussed.
Brian Salvatore wrapped up the *illar of the Day for the first half of the season, and it turned into a rough week for both *illars.
This Date in Mets History
Our very own beloved Ron Darling was traded to the Expos on this date in 1990. In return the Mets acquired reliever Tim Burke from Montreal.
