In January, a TikTok featuring the Sabrina the Teenage Witch cast dressed in red, white and blue on the show went viral.
The sitcom characters wore patriotic fashion in season 6, which aired a month after the 9/11 terror attacks.
Melissa Joan Hart responded to the video on Wednesday, noting that the cast’s decision to wear the USA colors was a “small symbol of our support.”
While rewatching Sabrina the Teenage Witch, a fan noticed that the show’s cast suddenly started sporting a lot of patriotic attire in season 6, and shared that observation to TikTok.
“They had the wardrobe team doing nationalism overtime!” user exbottom wrote alongside a video compilation of all the red, white and blue worn by the characters in season 6, which aired on Oct. 5, 2001, almost one month after the September 11th terror attacks.
Nearly 500,000 others agreed with the fan’s eagle-eye observation, including Melissa Joan Hart.
The actress, who played teenage witch Sabrina Spellman for all seven seasons, confirmed that she and her castmates did in fact take a patriotic approach to their on-screen looks as a “symbol of support” amid the despair that ensued in the U.S. after the harrowing events.

“I’m not sure I’ve ever shared this but after #september11 our nation came together in so many beautiful ways to stand with neighbors and against terrorism,” Hart, 47, wrote in the caption next to the video, in which she is seen wearing multiple items of clothing and accessories with the stars and stripes — and many of her castmates are seen in shades of red, white and blue (even to the point of arranging prop poker chips into the shape of an American flag).
She continued: “On #SabrinaTheTeenageWitch I insisted on wearing red, white and blue in every episode (as did my co-stars) as a small symbol of our support for a nation in mourning and confusion.”

This year marks the 27th anniversary of the TV classic. In 2021, when Sabrina the Teenage Witch reached its Silver Jubilee, Hart commemorated the milestone on Instagram.
“It’s been brought to my attention that 25 years ago today, Sept 27, 1996, our show first aired on ABC for 7 seasons,” the actress, 45, captioned a slideshow of photos from the show. “The little engine that could we called it since it was in the shadows of the largely anticipated show #Clueless but it persevered and we got to steal @reddonovan to come over to our fun cast.”
Hart added: “Tons of talented guest stars, musical acts and magic tv tricks over the years. Full of friendships and crazy memories, it was an incredible ride to be sure! Thanks for the love and support to help us do what we love to do, make people smile!! Happy #SabrinatheTeenageWitch Day!”
