Meghan and Harry Reported to Have Quit Social Media For Good

Good Sunday #GoodSunday

This time last year, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had over 10 million followers on their official Instagram account—but now it’s been reported that they’ve quit social media for good.

Since abandoning @sussexroyal in March 2020 following confusion over whether it was appropriate for them to use the moniker ‘royal’, as they no longer wished to be senior members of the royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex haven’t returned to social media.

Now the Sunday Times reports that it’s “very unlikely” that the couple will set up any new social media accounts, at least in a “personal capacity.”

Apparently Meghan and Harry became disillusioned with the criticism and trolling they attracted online, to put it mildly. In October, Markle reported findings that she had been the “most trolled person in the entire world” in 2019—despite having been absent from public life for eight months during that period, on maternity leave while pregnant and subsequently caring for her first child, Archie.

Describing the abuse as “almost unsurvivable,” she went on, “I don’t care if you’re 15 or 25, if people are saying things about you that aren’t true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging.”

It’s also been reported that the duke and duchess will decline to create a social media platform for their new non-profit organization Archewell, the website for which went live on December 31, 2020, and carried a touching ‘Letter for 2021’ that was written by the couple.

It read, “I am my mother’s son. And I am our son’s mother. Together we bring you Archewell.

We believe in the best of humanity. Because we have seen the best of humanity. We have experienced compassion and kindness, from our mothers and strangers alike.

“In the face of fear, struggle and pain, it can be easy to lose sight of this. Together, we can choose to put compassion in action.

“We invite you to join us as we work to build a better world, one act of compassion at a time.”

It was accompanied by a photo of a young Harry perched on Princess Diana‘s shoulders and a photo of a young Meghan hugging her mother, Doria Ragland.

Next up, happy birthday, Kate! Gorgeous picture released to celebrate the duchess turning 39!
