Medina Spirit wins the 147th running of the Kentucky Derby

Medina Spirit won the 147th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville on Saturday evening.

Starting from the eighth position, the horse led most of the way.

The victory was the record seventh by trainer Bob Baffert. Jockey John Velasquez won for the fourth time.

The Derby was back to the first Saturday of May and the first race of the Triple Crown after it was moved to September in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Because of social distancing, attendance was a little more than 51,000 at Churchill Downs, which has a capacity of 165,000.
