MCCC to host National Video Games Day open house

September 12 is National Video Games Day, and Monroe County Community College is celebrating by hosting an open house for a number of its programs designed to prepare students for careers in the field of video game design and development.

The National Video Games Day Open House will begin at 6 p.m. in Founders Hall, Room 140. It will feature the App Development, Computer Science, and Game Design and Development programs.

Prospective students will be able to learn about the programs, meet faculty and current students, and see demonstrations of prior students’ work.

The open house is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register, go to monroeccc.edu/videogames.

According to daysoftheyear.com, gaming is a pervasive part of our culture, coloring everything from our choices in clothing to our taste in cuisine, and there are even themed restaurants dedicated to gamers and the games they love. National Video Games Day was established to encourage people to celebrate this defining part of our culture and share it with our fellow gamers, new and old alike.

MCCC’s associate of applied science degree with specialization in Application Development is designed to train students in web and mobile app development. The college also offers a one-year certificate in this area. The associate of applied science degree with specialization in computer science is designed to train students for the area of computer programming in an engineering/science environment. The associate of applied science degree in game design and development provides students with the foundational skills for game design and development.
