May they rest in peace

 Mr. Rajendram Rajamoni (1941 – 2020) and  Mrs. Grace Rajendram (1946 – 2018)

Mr. and Mrs. Rajendran of Welihena, Kochchikade are no more having had a wonderful life as husband and wife for well over 40 years. 

Rajendran was the 7th child of the erstwhile illustrious family of the Rajamonies in Kochchikade, Negombo. He had five brothers and two sisters. Educated at St. Benedict’s College, Colombo, he took to poultry and dairy farming in his ancestral property “Ratnahiri Villa”, Welihena. After his marriage to Grace, he was managing Benarton D/C Mills in Katana belonging to the family. After a successful career, he settled down to a peaceful life at “Ratnahiri Villa” Welihena. His three children, all well educated, have settled down; two sons are abroad and the daughter is an English Lecturer at the University in Colombo. 

Both Rajendran and Grace lived a peaceful, fruitful life and departed having fulfilled their obligations

Grace was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Chellasamy of Colombo. She had one brother who was in the U.K. and died before her. Incidentally Mr. Challasamy, an engineer, was attached to the Highway Department (Then) now Road Development Authority (R.D.A.) in Jaffna. Grace had her early education at Chundikuli Girls’ High School in Jaffna and later at Methodist College, Colombo. She finished her University Education in Accra, Ghana. Her father was loaned to the Ghana, Government as a Water Works Engineer. The family returned to Sri Lanka, after the specified period and the father continued to serve the Sri Lankan Government till retirement. Grace married Rajendran and was a housewife. She along with her parents and the children moved to India for the sake of her children’s education. The two sons are LT. Professionals and the daughter is a graduate. The children having settled down well in life told their parents that they have done their duty by them and to allow them to do their duty by them.

Rajendran and Grace settled down to a peaceful life at “Ratnahiri Villa”, Welihena, Kochchikade. Chellasamy uncle died in India. Grace and daughter Shiranthi looked after aunty Chillasamy for almost 10 years, She was bed-ridden for some time. There is a saying that by one’s actions in this earthly life, it is RETRIBUTION OR REWARD! and I am sure it is reward for Grace and Shiranthi. 

Grace was a great hostess and along with her sisters-in-law Mrs. Rany Pandian and Mrs. Margaret Kingsley she used to arrange annual pilgrimages to the Madhu and Thalawila Churches. Grace and Rajendran were Philanthropists. 

As per the Bible Man’s span of life on earth are three scores and then (60 + 10= 70). Rajendran’s and Grace’s extra years were truly God’s blessings. 

Both Rajendran and Grace lived a peaceful, fruitful life and departed having fulfilled their obligations. The massive crowd at their funerals speaks of the great powers of Rajendran’s and Grace’s. They leave a rich legacy behind holding on to high traditions of their families and pleasant memories for generations to come. 

We pray to God to console their near and dear ones and may the earth lie soft on them and “Eternal Rest Grant unto them oh ! Lord and light perpetual shine on them. May they rest in peace” Kingsley DurairajPannipitiya.
