Max Verstappen finished P2 in qualifying for the Grand Prix today at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. It was a difficult session with only one hour of practice prior, and it wasn’t easy for many of the drivers who had varying levels of challenges around the tight circuit of Baku.

“It’s always tough around here to really put the whole lap together,” Verstappen said in a post-race interview. “I think also the second one, we tried something different on the outlap which maybe was not ideal for the lap time at the end.

“But around here, it’s just really hard to know you’re on the limit, and I’m trying to make everything perfect, it’s not the easiest.

“But nevertheless, we’re P2, we know that we have a very good racecar, so all in all, it’s not bad. “

Remaining confident in his performance this coming Sunday, he nonchalantly admits that he’ll only need to pass one car – the Ferrari belonging to Charles Leclerc.

“You always want to start ahead but we’ll have to pass one car.”

Verstappen, who has been openly against sprint weekends, was further asked about his opinion on going into yet another qualifying session tomorrow morning.

“Looking forward to it to see what we can do there and maybe we can find a few little things to do better. But overall, it’s all about just keeping it clean.

“You know, it’s super easy on here to make a mistake. So that’s definitely what we don’t want to do. And then we’ll see what happens tomorrow.”
