Mavs Owner Mark Cuban Blasts Officials for ‘Worst No-Call in NBA History’ in Loss to Warriors

The Dallas Mavericks lost to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, 127-125, in what was essentially a must-win game for both team’s optimal playoff positioning. Mavs owner Mark Cuban sounded off on the officiating crew after seemingly gifting the Warriors a layup after a timeout in the third quarter.

As the final seconds ticked away in the Dallas Mavericks’ loss to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, veteran forward Reggie Bullock hit a seemingly meaningless 3-pointer to make the final score 127-125 after being down five points.

However, due to a bizarre overturned call in the third quarter that Dallas apparently didn’t know about, the Warriors ended up with an uncontested layup with every single Maverick on the opposite end of the floor. Because of this, losing by two points was more bitter than usual, and Mavs owner Mark Cuban sounded off on what happened after the game.

“For those wondering about the play with 1:54 to go on the third, let me explain what happened,” Cuban tweeted. “The ref called Mavs ball. The announcer announced it. Then there was a timeout. During the timeout, the official changed the call and never told us. Then when they saw us line up as if it were our ball, he just gave the ball to the warriors. Never said a word to us. They got an easy (basket).

“Crazy that it would matter in a two-point game. Worst officiating non-call mistake possibly in the history of the NBA. All they had to do was tell us and they didn’t.”

Although that one mistake wasn’t the sole reason for the Mavs losing to the Warriors, it’s an unfortunate one in a game that had such huge playoff positioning implications. Instead of having the upper hand on the No. 6 seed, the Mavs are now the No. 9 seed in danger of dropping further in the coming days.

According to multiple reports, Cuban is planning to file an official protest with the league. According to NBAHoopsOnline.com, there have been 35 protests filed with the NBA since 1952, and only eight of those times have resulted in games being replayed. The last successful protest was 15 years ago in a game between the Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks on Dec. 19, 2007.

The Mavs protested their 111-107 loss to the Hawks on Jan. 17, 2020, but it was an unsuccessful attempt.
