Matthew Perry allegedly spoke negatively of his  ‘Friends’ co-stars because his “insecurity” caused him to be “jealous” of them.

As we reported, the late actor died from “acute effects of the drug Ketamine”, after rising to fame thanks to his role as Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom, ‘Friends’. During the height of the show, Perry said he struggled with Opioid abuse, specifically Vicodin.

In addition to his Opioid abuse, Perry also struggled with alcohol addiction, admitting in his 2022 memoir that he would show up to the set of ‘Friends’ intoxicated, leaving his co-stars worried.

“I know you’re drinking,” Jennifer Aniston told Perry, per, his memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.” “‘We can smell it,’” the actress added.

Perry starred on ‘Friends’ alongside Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), David Schwimmer (Ross), Courteney Cox (Monica), Matt LeBlanc (Joey), and Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe).

What devastated Matthew Perry most was “the plural, as she said, “we” — that “hit me like a sledgehammer,” he said in his memoir. “‘I know I’m drinking too much,’ I said, ‘but I don’t exactly know what to do about it,’” he recalled telling his co-star at the time.

The cast were all extremely close, both on and off set, however, a source close to the late actor is claiming Perry had lied to his ‘Friends’ co-stars about “so many things.”

“He lied to all of them about so many things over the years,” a source told US Magazine of the late actor.

“He had so much respect for them, but he [didn’t always] have positive things to say about them. He felt inferior [to them], so when he spoke negatively, it came from that insecurity,” the source alleged of Perry and his feelings towards his ‘Friends’ co-stars.

As The Blast previously reported, a source close to Perry said he was “jealous” of his co-stars because they did not struggle with addiction like he did.

“You know, the thing that always makes me cry, and I hope that I don’t cry here.. is that it’s not fair,” Perry said in an interview a few years ago. “It’s not, it’s not fair that I had to go through this disease while the other five didn’t,” he continued.

“They got everything that I got. But I had to fight this thing and still have to fight this thing,” Perry said of his addiction struggles.

“Matthew [Perry] viewed himself and the cast as winning the same lottery with the show’s success. They reaped the benefits of fame and fortune, but they didn’t have to deal with the pain of addiction. [There were times] he resented them for that,” the source told the outlet.

When promoting his 2022 memoir, Perry opened up about his addiction, explaining:

“[I was] at the height of my highest point in ‘Friends’, the highest point in my career, the iconic moment on the iconic show. When you’re a drug addict, it’s all math. I wasn’t doing it to feel high or to feel good. I certainly wasn’t a partyer; I just wanted to sit on my couch, take five Vicodin, and watch a movie. That was heaven for me. It no longer is.”

Perry went on to say he had been clean for a year and a half at the time, stating, “I’ve probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober.”
