Marnie Simpson has addressed her brief split from fiancé Casey Johnson, earlier this year, and revealed at the time she was secretly dealing with depression.
The former Geordie Shore star, 29, sparked speculation she and X Factor star Casey had split, earlier this year, after sharing cryptic posts on Instagram, insisting the couple’s son Rox is ‘all I need’.
Now, Marnie has shared the reason behind the break up and admitted while recovering from surgery she had to treat Trigonitis – a condition associated with severe bladder problems – she got so ‘down’, she ended up ‘pushing Casey away’.
Honest: Marnie Simpson has revealed the reason behind her brief break up with fiancé Casey Johnson earlier this year and said she was dealing with depression after undergoing surgery
Speaking to The Mirror, Marnie explained that her recovery put strain on her relationship with Casey.
‘The operation was really painful. It took about four months to fully heal and I was really, really depressed and so down,’ she revealed.
‘I was about eight weeks post-op, and I thought the operation hadn’t worked.
‘I got myself so upset and stressed out, even though the doctors had told us it was a very long, up and down recovery, and they said that would happen…. but when you’ve gone through such a traumatic illness, you worry that you’re going to be like that forever.’
Brief split: Marnie hinted at the split in January and has now shared she ‘pushed Casey away’ after getting ‘down’ while recovering from the operation she had to treat her bladder condition
Tough time: The star, 29, needed surgery after being diagnosed with Trigonitis after years of bladder problems that saw her hospitalised with a kidney infection (pictured with Casey)
Fearing the worst, Marnie confessed: ‘I thought it hadn’t worked and pushed everyone close to us away because I was so depressed all the time.’
Reality star Marnie first spoke about issues she had with her bladder in 2016, when she was hospitalised with a kidney infection and kidney stones following her stint on Celebrity Big Brother.
In lockdown last year, she was diagnosed with rare bladder condition Trigonitis, where tissue located in the lower part of the bladder becomes inflamed.
Marnie underwent an operation to treat the condition, with the mum-of-one revealing at the time that the procedure – which uses a metal rod to burn off layers of the bladder – was ‘quite invasive’.
In January, just months into her recovery, Marnie unfollowed Casey on social media – removing his name from her Instagram bio.
Difficult: Marnie admits her recovery hasn’t been plain sailing and took its toll on her mental health as well as her relationship with Casey, who she shares one-year-old son Rox with
She left fans concerned as she revealed she was having a ‘tough time’ and cryptically added ‘no one will ever know what goes on behind closed doors’.
Marnie, who has been dating Casey for over two-and-a-half-years, said via her Instagram story: ‘I’m getting a lot of messages, a lot of questions.
‘If I’m honest, like, I know everyone means well I just want everyone to respect my privacy that’s it really, I don’t wanna talk about it. Yeah, it’s a tough time, everyone is going through a tough time at the minute, I’m not gonna moan.’
She added: ‘What I’ve realised is over this past year, is that no one will ever know what goes on behind closed doors, I know that from personal experience… no one knows scenarios, details, situations, no one knows what’s going on in someone’s head, mind, treat people how you want to be treated.’
Marnie also shared a photo with her baby boy Rox and captioned it: ‘You’re my little miracle Rox, when things aren’t good and times are tough, I just look at your beautiful little face and that inspiring smile, I remember how incredibly lucky I am, you’re all I need in life baby boy (sic).’
