Castillo has lived up to expectations since joining the Mariners, and is 3-2 in 10 starts with a 3.34 ERA. The right hander was traded from the Cincinnati Reds to the Mariners ahead of the Aug. 2nd trade deadline.
This year for the Reds, he posted a 2.86 ERA in 14 starts.
Castillo is excited about the extension. Via FanNation:
“I feel great,” Castillo said. “Every baseball player wants to have a dream like this become a reality. I’m happy I was able to accomplish this with the Mariners and I want to thank everybody in the organization for treating me so well.”
The New York Yankees made a push to trade for Castillo but ended up watching him go to Seattle for a boatload of prospects.

The Mariners have been working hard recently to lockdown their talent. In August, they signed All-Star rookie Julio Rodriguez to a deal that could end up extending him for eight, 13, 16 or 18 years. The base of the deal is for eight years and $120 million, and if it maxes out it could be the largest deal ever at $470 million, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
