Margaret Thatcher statue egged after arrival in home town of Grantham
Thatcher #Thatcher
Eggs were thrown at a statute of Baroness Thatcher less than two hours after it was erected in her home town.
The statue was first intended for Parliament Square in Westminster, but was moved to Lincolnshire over concerns about far-left public activism.
Plans for a large-scale £100,000 unveiling ceremony had prompted a Facebook group to propose an “egg-throwing contest” and “graffiti art”. About 2,400 people visited the Facebook page to say they would take part in the protest, with 13,000 expressing an interest in the event.
It was egged within the first two hours, despite the presence of security cameras and a temporary fence
