Marcus Smart declares Celtics ‘King of the North’ after winning Game 7 vs. Toronto
King of the North #KingoftheNorth
Marcus Smart had a pretty epic parting shot for the Toronto Raptors following the Boston Celtics outstanding Game 7 victory on Friday.
With the Cs eliminating the Raptors in the playoffs, Smart declared Boston to be the new “King of the North.”
Marcus Smart is referencing HBO’s epic fantasy series “Game of Thrones” in his statement here, with the “King of the North” declaration stemming from one of the earlier episodes of the overly popular series.
For their part, the Raptors have been using the tagline “We the North” as their battle cry for a couple of seasons now, and it was easy — and inevitable — for Smart to put the two together. The feisty Celtics guard seemed to have been saving this jab for quite some time now, and their remarkable victory on Friday presented itself as the perfect opportunity to finally take it out.
There’s no denying that at this point, the Celtics can declare themselves as the new “Kings of the North.” By ousting the Raptors from the playoffs, they have literally dethroned the kings.
Smart himself was outstanding yet again in Game 7, finishing with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting, two boards, six assists and three steals in 43 minutes of action. The All-Defensive first-team member also came up with a huge block on Raptors forward Norman Powell down the stretch, which turned out to be a key defensive play that led to Boston’s series-clinching win.
