MANCHESTER UNITED striker Marcus Rashford has revealed his joy in surpassing Eric Cantona’s goal tally for the club.

The 23-year-old scored his 83rd United goal in their 9-0 victory against Southampton on Tuesday.

Rashford, 23, needs three more goals to overtake David Beckham's United tally of 85

Rashford tweeted: “Special moment for me as a boyhood United fan, passing King Eric’s record. Loved it out there tonight – great team performance.”

The England star is now one ahead of Cantona’s tally, but he still has some way to go to surpass Wayne Rooney’s record of 253.

The next man to overtake is David Beckham, who has 85 United goals.

Rashford needs 155 to go level with Paul Scholes and break into the club’s top 10 all-time scorers.

Bobby Charlton is second on the list with 249.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are in with a realistic chance of winning their first Premier League title since 2013 this season.

United are currently second, three points behind Manchester City.

It will take some doing to stop Pep Guardiola’s side, who have won their last nine Premier League games.

But Rashford believes they can compete with their local rivals and is full of confidence after surpassing Cantona’s record.

Speaking to BT Sport after the 9-0 thrashing, he said: “He’s (Cantona) obviously a top player that did a lot for the club so I’m pleased to go past him today and I want to score lots more goals and help the team.

“It’s always good to score lots of goals and we’re happy. We needed three points, we’ve dropped some points in recent games and needed to get back to winning ways.”

United can go level with City at the top of the table if they beat Everton at Old Trafford this evening.
