Marco Rubio Accused of Hypocrisy by Critics for Scolding Jen O’Malley Dillon

Twitter users harshly criticized Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) on Wednesday after he took aim at President-elect Joe Biden and his Deputy Chief of Staff Jen O’Malley Dillon for comments she made in a recent interview.

Dillon is under fire for calling Republicans “a bunch of f*ckers” in an interview with Glamour but Rubio’s criticism won strong backlash and accusations of hypocrisy.

“Biden talks about unity and healing, but you want to know what they really think?” Rubio tweeted. “Read how the person he wants as the next WH deputy chief of staff called Republicans in Congress a bunch of f***ers.”

Several social media users accused Rubio of “pearl clutching”, while others pointed to the fact he has rarely criticized President Donald Trump’s controversial comments over the past four years.

“@marcorubio AKA Little Marco is triggered, gang,” tweeted the conservative Lincoln Project. “In the morning, why don’t we call his office and comfort the poor dear.”

They added Rubio’s phone number and said “Sleep tight, little guy.” “Little Marco” is a reference to Trump’s attacks on Rubio during the 2016 Republican primaries. The president employed similar methods against other rivals.

“After carrying water for Trump for four years, you don’t get to act offended by anything ever again,” wrote historian Kevin M. Kruse. That sentiment was expressed by other prominent social media users.

“Pretty crazy you saw the incoming Deputy Chief of Staff’s interview in Glamour but never managed to see a single Trump tweet,” wrote Jason O. Gilbert of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.

“You okay little buddy? You’ll probably win in your primary against vanka [sic], oh no, probably not,” said The Daily Beast editor-at-large Molly Jong-Fast.

“‘Grab em by the pussy’ Marco. That’s more the style you are cool with,” tweeted Academy Award-winning actor Patricia Arquette. She was referring remarks made by Trump in a recording of Access Hollywood that leaked shortly before the 2016 election.

However, there were many who appeared to agree with Rubio’s sentiments. The View host Meghan McCain, whose late father was Republican Senator John McCain, said: “Calling all republicans ‘fuckers’ really isn’t exactly what I pictured ‘restoring the soul of America back’ would look like.”

There are also some in the Biden camp unhappy with O’Malley Dillon’s phrasing, according to Axios, and even suggestions she could apologize to congressional Republicans.
