Manchester United’s ‘priority’ should be signing a centre-back, not Jadon Sancho or Harry Kane, as Fikyo Tomori transfer from Chelsea is mooted

Manchester United must prioritise signing a centre-back this summer, according to Ally McCoist.

The Red Devils have been linked with an array of attacking talent, including Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish.

However, Rangers and Scotland legend McCoist insists a central defender to partner Harry Maguire should be top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wish list.

And Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori, who has starred in a loan spell with AC Milan this season, has been mooted as an option for United.

McCoist told talkSPORT: “I still think the centre-back position is a key priority for Manchester United.

“An interesting one is Tomori, what about him? Would you go and get him? They definitely need someone to play alongside Harry Maguire.

“Sancho would be a great signing, Kane would be a fantastic signing, Grealish would be a wonderful signing, but I don’t think it’s top of Manchester United’s priority list.

“I still think a central defender is top of that list. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them strengthen in that department.

“I’ve really enjoyed Manchester United this year, the level of improvement in their play has been there for everyone to see.

“Second place and a Europa League trophy would be an excellent season for Manchester United.

“In terms of to continue their improvement in their pursuit of Manchester City, a centre-back is an absolute priority.”

Meanwhile, talkSPORT’s Natalie Sawyer is also keen to know more about the talent Tomori has to offer.

“There is a player I’m intrigued to know more about which is Fikayo Tomori because he started the season at Chelsea and did really, really well under Frank Lampard last season and then he was shipped out on loan to AC Milan.

“You’re hearing the comments from Franco Baresi and Paulo Maldini, who are glowingly talking about him.”
