Manchester United are winning the race to sign Ruben Neves for £35million this summer.

The Wolves midfielder has been heavily linked with Arsenal in recent weeks as Gunners boss Mikel Arteta eyes a replacement for Roma-bound Granit Xhaka.

But talkSPORT’s Alex Crook claims United are in pole position to sign Neves, who is a Portugal teammate to Old Trafford stars Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.

“Neves is another player Mikel Arteta has been monitoring very closely, but the trail seems to have gone cold there over a move to Arsenal,” Crook told talkSPORT host Jim White.

“Wolves have their price tag, £35m, and they’re willing to do business to try and generate some funds for their new manager Bruno Lage.

“Liverpool were mentioned to me, but there’s definite interest from Manchester United.

“Bruno Neves is a Portguesue teammate of Bruno Fernandes and he is actively trying to push Neves towards Old Trafford.

“They do want another midfielder regardless of Pogba’s future at the club.”

Neves, who has three years left on his contract at the Molineux, is currently on holiday following his Euro 2020 exploits, but is due to report back for pre-season training soon.

The 24-year-old joined Wolves for £15.8million from Porto in 2017 and led them to Premier League promotion in his debut season.

Neves continued to be a regular starter in midfield as Wolves secured back-to-back seventh-placed top-flight finishes, along with a run to the Europa League quarter-finals.

With the emergence of Morgan Gibbs-White and other central midfield options in Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker, now could be the right time for Wolves to cash in on their star man.

Neves could be a possible replacement for Paul Pogba, who has less than a year left on his Manchester United contract.

The France midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, who could land him for just £43m this summer.
