Manchester City looking to sell two players after Jack Grealish transfer is done

Man City #ManCity

Manchester City will look to offload Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez as they close in on Jack Grealish, according to reports. The Aston Villa star is poised to move to the Etihad Stadium in a massive £100million transfer deal. And that would make him the costliest recruit in British football history.

Manchester City are making their move.

Despite winning the Premier League title last term, and reaching the final of the Champions League, Pep Guardiola is refusing to rest on his laurels as he looks to dominate world football.

It has today emerged that City are on the verge of landing Grealish from Aston Villa, with the Citizens prepared to pay £100m to secure his signature.

Such a fee would see him become the most-expensive signing in British football history, dwarfing the £89m Manchester United spent on Paul Pogba back in the summer transfer window of 2016.

And, now, the Daily Mail claim City will look to offload Sterling and Mahrez as they close in on the 25-year-old.

Sterling endured a difficult campaign under Guardiola last term, falling out of favour throughout the course of the campaign.

Mahrez, meanwhile, was often used up top with City phasing out Sergio Aguero and seemingly unwilling to back Gabriel Jesus at the time.

But the pair, who have won six Premier League titles between them during their stints at the Etihad Stadium, are now primed to be deemed surplus to requirements.

Grealish isn’t the only player City want, with Guardiola also determined to prise Harry Kane away from Tottenham.

They’ve already seen one bid, believed to be worth in the region of £100m, rejected as Spurs look to keep hold of their prized asset.

And whether City are successful in signing Kane remains to be seen, with Tottenham adamant the 27-year-old won’t be sold for any price – despite £150m being mooted as a potential breaking point.

Eurosport’ Dean Jones recently revealed Arsenal were looking at Sterling and Mahrez, though the Gunners were unsure if they had the resources to get a double deal done.

“Arsenal are making tentative enquiries for Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling,” Jones told The Football Terrace podcast.

“Arsenal are trying to figure out what level of player they can sign in this window.

“They want to be as ambitious as they can, they have genuinely no idea who could sign for them at this point.

“From what I was told, Arsenal have gone to sound out agents in the deals, representative of both players. To see, one, if they’re available right now and two, to get an idea if it’s even worth it trying to sign those players.

“Personally, I can’t see either Mahrez or Sterling joining from Man City.

“But that doesn’t matter. Right now, Arsenal are just trying to do their homework and to get stuff done.

“Arsenal want to make a statement, as big as they can really. And knowing they’re looking at players like that should give them some optimism.”

Regarding Grealish, the Aston Villa star recently insisted he was unfazed by the expectations that come with being involved for England at a major tournament as the Three Lions look to win Euro 2020.

“There is nothing to say I can’t perform at this level,” Grealish said.

“You all know how much confidence I have in myself to be able to perform and I felt I did that with my assist. I felt I could have still created a few more chances but we got the win and that was the main thing.

“I felt fine out there fitness-wise. It was a good team performance from the boys against a team that hadn’t lost in their two games in the tournament.

“I don’t think it’s pressure at all, I love playing football and that is what I am paid and what I was born to do.

“I just love playing football every day of my life and when I go out there, there is no pressure on me whatsoever. I just enjoy myself like I always do. I felt in the second half I still could have got on the ball a little bit more and tried to dictate the game a bit more from an England point of view.”
