Jesse Charles Askew, age 36, was still at large Friday night, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

If Askew is spotted, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office says to use “extreme caution as we do not know his mental state or if he has additional firearms.”

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired Thursday evening, Feb. 25 in the Big Springs area. Victims said a suspect, who they identified as Askew, came to their home and fired multiple rounds.

While deputies were on scene, they heard additional rounds being fired nearby. A deputy and a CHP officer who responded to help contacted Askew nearby. He relinquished a 9 mm handgun to officers, the SCSO reported, but he resisted arrest and tried to take the CHP officer’s duty rifle away from them.

Askew ran from the area and even with the assistance of a CHP helicopter, authorities were unable to locate him.

Askew owns property in Siskiyou County, the Sheriff’s Office added.

Those who have information about Askew area asked to contact the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office through their 24-hour dispatch at (530) 841-2900.
