Man Utd to use Jadon Sancho as inside man for transfer as ‘electric’ Bundesliga ace becomes target
Sancho #Sancho
A report has suggested Manchester United will pursue Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong to solve an Erik ten Hag problem, and Jadon Sancho could be their secret weapon for the transfer.
Manchester United were left reeling from the recent 6-3 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City. Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both bagged hat-tricks on a torrid day for Ten Hag’s side.
The Red Devils are looking to get back to winning ways when they play Cypriot outfit Omonia FC in the Europa League tonight.
While Ten Hag will be hoping his team can prove their worth on the pitch, the Dutchman will also be looking for squad investment next year to prevent more derby thrashings.
One issue Ten Hag is looking to address is who to play at right-back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has little chance of making it under the manager due to his lack of quality in the final third.
Diogo Dalot is the only alternative on the right side of defence and due to this he has been given starts in most Manchester United games this season.
Dalot has impressed, leading to rumours United will extend his contract. The Portuguese’s current terms expire at the end of the season.
While Dalot is doing well, United could probably do with landing a new right-back to help them become top-four contenders.
And a new target for this position has just come into sight. According to the Daily Express, United like the look of Leverkusen star Frimpong. He is a 21-year-old defender who represents Netherlands U21s.
Frimpong has been in good form so far this campaign, notching two goals and two assists in 12 appearances. This includes a brace from when Leverkusen beat Mainz 3-0 in the Bundesliga on August 27.
The full-back’s impressive performances with Leverkusen lead the Daily Express to call him an ‘electric’ player. And it seems United want to bring him to the Premier League.
Leverkusen are in a fairly strong negotiating position. Frimpong’s contract at the BayArena runs until summer 2025, which means they won’t have to sell him for a reduced price any time soon.
However, there is a key reason why the Amsterdam-born ace could end up swapping Leverkusen for United in the near future.
Frimpong is a former team-mate of Sancho’s from their time at Manchester City. They were in the City youth setup together until Sancho’s move to Borussia Dortmund in August 2017.
Of course, Sancho is now at City’s rivals United. And there is the possibility of him convincing Frimpong to join the Red Devils.
Should the winger have a word with Frimpong, then the Leverkusen man could hand in a transfer request. This would force the German side to let him go for a reduced price, saving United some money.
A January move is definitely possible. For now, though, United will keep tabs on the defender’s development. And Frimpong will aim to continue shining so he can get that big Prem transfer.
Meanwhile, a manager thinks a United player will ‘walk through’ his current struggles and become ‘a colossus’ once again.
