Man Utd ratings: Antony stakes case as worst-ever signing but Garnacho gives absolutely everything against Forest

Garnacho #Garnacho

MANCHESTER UNITED endured another dismal day at the office as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

It was another lacklustre display from the Red Devils, who have now suffered nine Premier League defeats this season.

Nicolas Dominguez opened the scoring in the 64th minute after finding an acre space on the edge of the box.

United thought they had salvaged something when Alejandro Garnacho capitalised on a huge error from Matt Turner before squaring the ball to Marcus Rashford, who fired it into the bottom-right corner.

However, Forest – led by new boss Nuno Espirito Santo – bounced straight back through Morgan Gibbs-White to clinch all three points.

On yet another day to forget for the Red Devils, here’s how SunSport rated the performance…

ANDRE ONANA – 5

No chance for Dominguez’s opening goal although maybe should have done better for Gibbs-White’s winner. Has improved recently but Onana still remains a huge concern.

He continues to have communication issues and is either not helping his back four with the calls or is simply not shouting loud enough for them to hear.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA – 5

Was clearly under instructions to push forwards but the problem was that he kept leaving a huge hole at right-back.

He was then extremely sluggish in getting back into his position which did not help, either. Had the first shot on target although it was not much of one.

RAPHAEL VARANE – 5

Got lucky when he stuck out a leg to block Elanga’s cross and it flashed across the face of the goal when it could easily have been an own goal. At times, he could have put his body on the line.

Jeered by the home fans due to the fact he has previously played for Leicester. Although due to United’s lack of quality, must feel as though he is still playing for Leicester.

He will be disappointed with both goals but along with Varane, will feel that he was not being protected by the midfield.

DIOGO DALOT – 5

Should have done much better to deal with Elanga who found Gibbs-White to score for 2-1. Earlier, he hammered a decent shot against the post.

KOBBIE MAINOO – 6

The teenager did well enough in his defensive midfield role and stopped a few home attacks so it was a surprise when he was replaced at the break.

There were plenty of others that could not have complained had they been taken off instead.

For a player of his class, needs to be having far more of an impact in these type of matches but was a passenger for long spells.

At 1-1, he forced a decent save from Turner although Forest then went down the other end and scored.

ANTONY – 0

Another hopeless, embarrassing performance from the £85million United winger who merely enhanced his reputation as one of the worst buys in the club’s entire history.

Maybe even THE worst signing. Did absolutely nothing before being replaced shortly into the second half.

In tough matches like this, you need a captain to lead by example.

This is why it was a truly terrible decision by Erik ten Hag to make Fernandes his captain and United need to take the skipper’s armband off him. Had a deflected shot in injury time which was well saved by Turner. 5

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO – 6

Cut out the terrible pass out from Forest keeper Turner and then squared for Rashford to level.

A decent battle with Forest right-back Gonzalo Montiel. Gave absolutely everything, unlike some of his colleagues.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 6

Did very little until he came up with the equaliser and it was a decent finish. Playing up front due to Rasmus Hojlund missing the game due to an illness.

Yet whoever United had played as the central striker, they would have struggled because the service was so dire.

Got lucky when his clearance rebounded against Elanga and back towards the goal.

Amad Diallo (for Antony 54 mins) – 4

Did nothing.

Sergio Reguilon (for Wan-Bissaka 90 mins) – 3

No time to have any impact.
