Man Utd predicted line-up vs Everton as Victor Lindelof faces late fitness test

Lindelof #Lindelof

Manchester United head to Everton looking to bounce back from their lacklustre defeat in Istanbul on Wednesday.

The Red Devils went down 2-1 to Turkish champions Istanbul Basaksehir in a display that was heavily criticised.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Dean Henderson and Donny Van de Beek chances to impress but both may return to the bench at Goodison.

Much has been made of the Dutchman’s lack of minutes as United seek a balance in midfield.

Paul Pogba was benched for the game in midweek having given away a penalty against Arsenal on Sunday.

And Solskjaer may revert to the dependable duo of Scott McTominay and Fred behind Bruno Fernandes on Merseyside.

David de Gea is also set to start in between the sticks.

Anthony Martial has now served his three-game ban after being sent-off against Tottenham and is poised to return.

The Frenchman scored for United on Wednesday night and is likely to start in attack alongside Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Defence though continues to be Solskjaer’s problem area which was underlined by the goals they conceded in Istanbul.

Summer signing Alex Telles has recovered from coronavirus and is now training but it may be too soon for him to be thrown in from the start.

Axel Tuanzebe played alongside Harry Maguire last time out with Solskjaer confirming that Victor Lindelof will undergo a late fitness test.

The Norwegian though has shown a reluctance thus far to give Tuanzebe a run of games and may revert to a tried and tested partnership as they seek a response.

“We’ve not lost any (players) from the Istanbul trip,” he said on Friday. “Same group, same squad.

“Alex has started training with us, which is good. Victor (Lindelof) has still got the issue that he’s been struggling with. He’ll have to be checked tonight (Friday) in the hotel.

“It’s the same squad as before Istanbul, really.”

Solskjaer is yet to win at Everton in two visits as United boss, the first of those being a 4-0 humbling back in April 2019.
