Man Utd player ratings: Aaron Wan-Bissaka the best of a bad bunch as Diogo Dalot endures Newcastle horror show

ERIK TEN HAG’S struggles continued as Manchester United were knocked out the Carabao Cup by Newcastle.

Goals from Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock sealed a comfortable 3-0 win for the visitors at Old Trafford.

Full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka was the best of a bad bunch for the Red Devils on Wednesday night.

However, Diogo Dalot endured a horror evening before being replaced by his fellow defender.

Here is how SunSport’s Martin Blackburn rated the United players’ performances.

Andre Onana – 5

For the second time in four days he shipped three on his own patch – but you could not blame the Cameroon for any of them. Are the defence confident playing in front of him though?

Diogo Dalot – 3

A nightmare 45 minutes. Not strong enough as Almiron put the visitors ahead and then beaten by Willock in the build up to the second. No surprise when he was replaced by Wan Bissaka at the break.

Given another chance by Ten Hag but his weak header out presented Hall with the chance to volley home.  Stood off Willock and he breezed forward to stroke home the third goal.

Victor Lindelof – 5

Another guilty of standing by and watching as Willock weaved his way to goal. Ended up with the armband on but could not inspire his team as Newcastle looked a threat every time they attacked.

Sergio Reguilon – 5

Looks useful enough going forward but defensively suspect and the Toon ran riot down both flanks. Got a needless yellow card for dissent as his frustration got the better of him.

Casemiro – 4

Involved for the first time since the international break after injury and suspension.  Created a chance for Antony but offered little more and was replaced by Amrabat at the break with his team in disarray.

Mason Mount – 4

Another tough night for the England ace – summed up when he skied a shot miles over the bar with the tie already gone.  Signed for big money and badly needs to show his quality soon.

Early shot forced a save from Dubravka. Wild effort over the bar as United staged a rally in the second half. The Brazilian could not impact the game and cut a frustrated figure again.

Hannibal Mejbri – 5

Very lucky to stay on the pitch after getting a yellow card and then another late challenge on Hall soon after.  The youngster was naïve although you couldn’t fault his passion at least.

Alejandro Garnacho – 5

Lost possession to set the ball rolling for the Toon opener. Tried to drag United back into it after the break but then replaced as Ten Hag tried to limit the damage.

Anthony Martial – 4

Missed his header completely after decent cross by Dalot. Couldn’t get on end of another dangerous centre by Garnacho. Could have no complaints about being subbed after the hour.

SUBS Aaron Wan-Bissaka (for Dalot) – 6

Got a big cheer when he came on and couldn’t do any worse than Dalot.

Lost possession to Joelinton in the build up to the third goal and another who could have been red-carded.

Rasmus Hojlund (for Martial) – 5

Thrown on when the tie was gone and did not get any chances.

Ran about a lot but could not affect the game by the time he was thrown on.

Bruno Fernandes (for Hannibal) – 5

A couple of dangerous crosses from the skipper but too little too late.
